Mastery of language depends on technical accuracy. At GFS, pupils have dedicated lessons in punctuation and grammar to help them to express themselves clearly and correctly both in speech and in writing. We call these sessions 'Technical Skills Lessons'. These lessons follow Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning and offer pupils the opportunity to learn how to perfect a particular skill (e.g. how to use semi-colons correctly) alongside deeper analysis and evaluation of the skill's usage in language (e.g. how use of the passive voice affects the tone of responsibility and blame in a newspaper article).
Below you will find an example of a recent technical skills assessment which I designed with questions from different areas of the Bloom's Taxonomy. For example, in the last question, each option could be considered technically correct, but in order to answer the question, pupils need to be able to evaluate which option is most appropriate and explain why this is the case.
