summer literacy
At the beginning of every school year, GFS pupils and staff undertake a residential camping trip together. This year, we visited the Tree Jumpers facility in Kent where we able to take part in a range of activities including camping outdoors, bushcraft, survival techniques, abseiling, orienteering, and rock-climbing. Alongside this, pupils developed their literacy skills by keeping a diary about their experiences, playing creative writing games, and solving literacy puzzles. The hidden wreckage of a plane crash in the forest provided a great opportunity to write some mysterious tales and newspaper reports, and pupils enjoyed terrifying their new classmates with ghost stories by the campfire. At break times, pupils and staff played board games together, with the Banangrams word game and chess proving particularly popular! In the photos below you can see some of our activities:
