An ability to engage confidently, excitedly, and thoughtfully with Shakespeare is one of the core aims of the GFS English and Drama curriculum. We believe that the best way to experience a Shakespearian play is by acting it out. From the outset, our pupils have been engaging with the text by performing it in short sections and using these performances to analyse the text in specific detail (in turn adpating and improving their performances). This has proven very effective: as our studies of Macbeth have progressed, pupils have gained a strong understanding of the Scottish play and of Shakespearian language. They have also had the opportunity to grow in resilience as they tackled the challenging text with increasing confidence.
The play itself has been a big hit with GFS pupils. You can see from the comments and pictures below that they have really enjoyed exploring the plot in detail, particularly the overturning of the natural order and Macbeth's inevitable mental decline.
